So now I am officially alive? Said Josh” Some kids laughed. Other said Happy Birthday.

I said: ” What do you mean Josh?”

” I did not have a birth certificate, so I did not exist, I did not have a name untill I see it printed in this passport. Replied Josh.”

“Well Josh, for me you are alive as soon as I saw you . For God, you were alive the moment you were conceived in your mothers’ womb, and so He planned all your days. But I understand the feeling of having your name printed in such an important paper, right! I said.

” Yeah aunty, now I can go anywhere, any country, I am a citizen of the world! said Josh

.” Sure Josh! Go conquer the Earth! I replied.

I really believe we are rasing the leaders of tomorrow! Thank you for your prayers, with them it would not be possible. Thank you for the words of encouragement in these months when we felt that it wouldn’t happen, but we kept pressing on! Sleepless night, long lines on waiting. Now our reward is here : the passports! The smile on the kids’ faces! It was all worthy .

Last Tuesday they have performed in one of the most prestigious hall in the city of Pune.

Hundreds have come to see the program. They sang beautifully and the program overall was a sucess.

They kids were all entusiastic about all the glamour and the loud claps they’ve received from the audience .

We were very poud of them and thankfull for MR. Lee and his team for such an investment in our kids lives.

 We have 28 children enrolled in school (college) this year.

Kids praying for Nikhil

And Nikhil was diagnosed with ITP.

In most cases, an autoimmune response is believed to cause ITP.

Normally your immune system helps your body fight off infections and diseases. But for Nikhil who has ITP, his immune system attacks and destroys its own platelets.

The reason why this happens isn’t known. The normal count for white blood cell is of 4,500 – 10,000, but Nikhil’s (wbc) is only of 1,000.

He was in the hospital for about 5 days and the bleeding stopped and his white cells were increasing. He was given discharge from the hospital last Friday but the same night he started bleeding again and was admitted into the hospital on Saturday once again stayed in the hospital  for 3 days.

Now he is back home. He is ok and not bleeding anymore just seems too weak.

Doctors have said he won’t be able to participate in sport events anymore or play rough like any other boys like to. His body is quite sensitive and in case he gets hurt, the wounds won’t heal as fast as other kids do.

 If you have seen the movie: “ Slum Dog Millionaire” and remember the scene where the kids are in the garbage dump collecting things…

That place looked familiar to Nikhil and his two brothers. They used to go around garbage dumps looking for things, collect them and sell in the recycle place. Sometimes they would even eat what they’ve found if it seemed not too bad.

Nikhil came to HOGF home along his two brothers(Akash and Omkar). They have been living with us for now for 4 years. At first Nick was shy and reserved but slowly got used to the house routine and opened up more to receive love given to him and his brothers.

Little we knew how bright those kids were. His older brother Akash went to a school entrance exam and because of his grade, 100 out of 100, all the kids of the HOGF home was granted admission in the school on the account of his performance no other kids from our home needed to go through entrance examination and were accepted in to the school.

Now Nikhil, another genius, who uses scraps of metal to make remote control cars and electronic toys. Got an award by the school as being the BEST  student of the year.

Not only that but NIKHIL’S MARKS were graded in the city school level and he was found to be the number 4^th  in the scale of bright students in the WHOLE CITY OF PUNE.

Take that as an encouragement! We are raising leaders.

 Sad news is…

Something really tragic happen.

Two days ago, after school Nikhil came home with his nose bleeding. We’ve immediately thought it was by sun stroke and we just helped him with first aid.

But that night while Nikhil was sleeping blood was coming out of his nose and month and it wasn’t stopping at all. We immediately  took him to the hospital and now after seeing a doctor and had tests done, they’ve found out that Nikhil white blood cell is very low.

He is in very serious condition in the hospital. Needing 8 bags of blood to be put in to his little body  immediately. Each bag cost Rs. 800 (20U$) . He then needs  plus medical expenses of the hospital he is in.

The doctors are still testing him to get to know what the main problem is. They’ve done the blood test and tonight they will do the bone maroon test as well.

Please pray with us for Nikhil’s heath and also for finances to care for him.

HOGF

Encouraging to remember where our residential kids come from and the transformation they go through and how well they are now.

Overwelming to know we can’t save everyone!

We are blessed by having a group of volunteers working with us this month, and when we have volunteers helping we bring the street kids more often to get them clean and fed at the HOGF home. 

New faces, young ones and sadly young girls and their  babies (actually too young to be mothers come in to join us for the day).

Manu , one of the girls who have been rescued 9 years ago by HOGF was going out with me downtown one of these days, when I saw a young girl in the streets selling ballons. The young girl was beautifull, actually too gorgeours( she could be a model sort of beauty), and I’ve told Manu how sad it was to see that girl in streets, and how dangerous I imagine was specially for being such a pretty in the streets.

Manu stopped and looked at the girl and exclaimed: Oh that girl!? She is Salma, and she was my best friend when I used to live in the streets. We used to beg downtown together.

Knowing the story of Salma made me feel happy to have Manu safe with me. That young girl, Salma had just had a baby and while sleeping with her partners one night they  possibly squashed the baby while the baby was sleeping between them. The baby died.

Her life was lost,  painfull as it sounds but as real as well.

Manu said: Aunty?   Yes, Manu I replied.  Manu said: It could have been me.
